Data Analysis and Consolidation
The objective of the data conversion team is to drive the detailed data analysis process and implement
methods for data configuration and data migration/conversion from various data sources (legacy systems
or other).
In the initial analysis phase the structure, the scope, the update cycle and the amount of suitable data
sources will be verified. Based on considerations regarding the structure and the data volume
recommendations are made for the initial data load. This is to define in which areas data load routines are
suitable for implementation and which customized configuration settings are better scripted to initialize
efficiently the new system(s).
Data Load
Based on your approval regarding net-linx’ recommended directions about the initial data load and the
availability of suitable (sub-)sets of data we will then develop data conversion routines.
Before we develop the routines for the data load, we perform an analysis of mass data and make
modifications to the configuration settings for the products, since the products might need a special
customization for you.
Performance Optimization
Based on the availability of suitable full sets of data and in alignment with performance figures of available
or planned server hardware we will work closely with our installation service team to ensure that you get
the desired performance for time critical data conversions.
If desired for fine-tuning of the data conversion we arrange that we get the data installed on comparable
hardware and identical software as planned.
Data Conversion On-Site
Performance figures of development servers are not always scalable to available server hardware with full
sets of data to be processed. This is mostly due to parallel operation of legacy and other systems. Once
we have passed the performance optimization on development servers, we recommend therefore a full
conversion cycle within your client-server infrastructure.
This ensures also that more actual data sets are available for a final data conversion/consolidation test.
The data conversion routines will then be tested within your client-server infrastructure along with scripted
configuration settings for your customized system. This will then match also the latest decisions regarding
the business analysis conducted for and with you.
Once the set of data conversion routines have been implemented at your sites, you may opt for a number
of subsequent data conversion tests by your own with/without our supervision. In this case you may for
example test the duration of processes for data load from other systems. This might be the case if you
would like developing own interfaces based on application programming interfaces delivered by us.
Data Growth Estimates
Data growth estimates are essential for hardware planning. They are best estimated based on the result of
a scalable full conversion cycle on-site.
We can then calculate the estimated growth of data during on-line operation after your initial data load from
various data sources for the near future or develop a model for the data growth, in the event that the
business plans are not yet finalized (for example the number of customers and listing entries in the
database is not yet exactly known).
The estimates are then valuable for a more detailed infrastructural planning, supported by our installation
service team, for your rollout into production for the near future.
